Ingredients: 

400 g (14 oz) dried fava (broad) beans or yellow split peas 
1 litre vegetable stock 
Half teaspoon paprika
Half teaspoon chili powder
Quarter teaspoon baking soda 
Quarter teaspoon salt
Half cup finely chopped fresh dill
2 tomatoes, finely chopped 
1 green bell pepper, seeded and finely chopped
1 small onion, grated 
4 tablespoons dry bread crumbs 
All-purpose (plain) flour, for dusting
Vegetable oil, for deep-frying

Cooking Directions: 

- Put the split peas into a pan, pour in the stock, and bring to a boil. Simmer for 45-60 minutes, until they are very soft and all the liquid has been absorbed.
- Remove the pan from the heat. Combine the cooked peas, paprika, chili powder, baking soda and salt in a bowl. 
- Add the dill, tomatoes, bell pepper, onion, and bread crumbs and mix well. Form the mixture into bite-size balls and chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes. 
- Spread out the flour on a shallow plate and roll the balls in it to coat, shaking off any excess, then flatten slightly. 
- Heat the oil in a deep-fryer to 35°-3750f: (l80-i90°C). Add the croquettes, in batches if necessary, and deep-fry for 5-10 minutes, until golden brown. 
- Drain well and serve immediately.
