New Year’s yeast bread

Ingredients: 

2lbs flour
1/3 cup brandy
1 tablespoon orange zest
1oz. yeast
1.5 cups milk
4 eggs
3 tablespoons almonds grated
4oz. butter
12oz. sugar
 

Cooking Time: 
40 minutes
Cooking Directions: 

- Dissolve the yeast in eight spoonfuls of lukewarm milk.
- Add two heaped spoons of flour and a spoonful of sugar and stir well.
- Cover the bowl with a towel and leave in a warm place for about half an hour so that the yeast can rise.
- Add the other ingredients all at room temperature.
- First add the butter and the sugar.
- Stir well and add the orange zest, the grated almonds, the brandy, remainder of the lukewarm milk and 3 eggs.
- Add the flour and knead well.
- Shape into a ball, place in a bowl, cover with a towel and leave in warm place to rise.
- When the dough has been raised, knead it again; place it in a buttered baking dish and leave to rise once more.
- Beat the yolk on the remaining egg, brush the bread gently and bake in a preheated oven at 350oF for about 40 minutes.
